Serbia’s European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said that Serbia intends to align its visa policy by the time it becomes an EU member state because that would mean greater security for the citizenship.

“I believe there is no reason why our visa-free regime should be threatened,” the Minister told Kurir daily, when asked whether the visa regime was threatened, following speculation that the EU disagrees with Serbia’s decision to abolish visas for certain countries, which had increased the number of migrants in the EU.

Stating that EU member states are monitoring the situation concerning the movement of citizens from countries on EU’s black lists towards the EU, Joksimovic said that Serbia is doing the same and that it monitors and controls flights at the airport together with the Frontex units.

The European Border and Coast Guard Agency, also known as Frontex is an agency of the European Union headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, tasked with border control of the European Schengen Area, in coordination with the border and coast guards of Schengen Area member states.
