Sentences passed for assault on Macedonian MP Izvor: N1

A court in Skoplje has sentenced seven people to jail terms for assaulting Alliance for Albanians party leader MP Zijadin Selja in the Macedonian parliament (Sobranje), Macedonian media reported.

Selja was seriously injured during riots in May 2017 which broke out after ethnic Albanian Taliat Xhaferi was elected parliament speaker.

The Alliance for Albanians leader was not present in court to hear his attackers sentenced to prison terms ranging from 10 to 13 and a half years on charges of attempted murder.

The sentencing was an hour late to start because the police failed to bring in one of the accused who was under house arrest, the Plusinfo portal said.
