Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic are in the Bulgarian capital Sofia for Thursday’s summit of European Union and Western Balkan leaders which will focus on the region’s European prospects, its development and cooperation.

Bulgaria took over the presidency of the Council of the EU on January 1, 2018 and will hand over to its successor Austria at the end of June.

According to an N1 reporter in Sofia, the summit will not focus on expansion of the EU but on political and economic links both between the EU and Western Balkan countries and among the countries of the region.

Leaders of the EU and Western Balkan have not met at this level since the Thesaloniki summit in 2003 when the region was first promised a clear European perspective.
