Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Foreign minister has said on Friday that the normalisation of relations with NATO and EU on one hand and with Russia on the other is a key condition for stability, economic and every other progress in Europe and in the world.

Addressing the International Parliamentary Conference in Belgrade, Dacic said Serbia was a small but proud country which wanted to protect its national interests in the best possible way.

He added that, at the same time, Serbia wanted to contribute to the regional, European, but also to a global peace and progress.

“Serbia is military neutral and does not intend to join any of the existing alliance. Its neutrality is not an obstacle to the development of cooperation in the interest of the global and especially regional security,” he told a panel called “European security – NATO, EU and Russian relations.”

Dacic has said that Serbia participates in the NATO Partnership for Peace Programme and that it has a transparent cooperation with Russia which is not at the expense of its relations with NATO, nor is it an obstacle for achieving the strategic foreign policy goal of joining the EU.

The Foreign Minister said Serbia wanted to build and preserve good neighbourly relations and solve all open issues in an honest dialogue.

Regarding the issue of Kosovo, Dacic said it was of the essential importance for the regional security, but for the wider Europe as well.

“For Serbia”, he said, “Kosovo is the greatest political and security challenge.”
